Since I have not read most of the books in this section, I am not sure what applicability they have to Métis peoples and issues. They are included here on the assumption that almost anything on the colonial fur trade in North America is going to have address the the existence and role of mixed blood/Métis people in the fur trade. By the same token they are included in a section of their own so that people looking for Métis-exclusive material will not have to wade through these titles. Sometimes it is just as informative to see how this issue is hidden/avoided by some writers as it is to examine those instances where it is directly addressed.. As I noted earlier I deleted almost half of the titles I found in the "fur trade" search. As time permits, I may re-introduce some of them. Books with a "*" mark in front of them are in my library and [square-braketed comments and reviews] are my own opinion and subject to my own biases. If others wish to write reviews on books I haven't read or want to counter my own opinions, I would be happy to include them. The fact that a book is in my library does not necessarily mean I
recommend it. In my work I have to know what the "enemy" is thinking,
writing, and reading so I buy a lot of books I don't really enjoy.
I also need to know what others are writing so I don't have to repeat the
material in my own work, or so I can challenge or contradict what some
writers are writing. But I thought it would be useful for people
to know what is available online.
